Skipping setup and building your own page
Start from a blank app, meet Studio's three panels, and add your first text, page and table.
What's in this video
- Some people would rather build everything themselves. If that's you, you can skip the setup steps completely.
- Click Skip setup, I'll build it myself, at the bottom.
- You land on your dashboard. The first time, Emet, our guide, offers to show you around. It's worth doing, but we'll skip it for now. You can start it again any time with the question mark at the top.
- You don't have an app yet, so there are two ways forward. Set up my app runs the setup steps after all. Start from a blank app lets you build it your way. Let's start blank.
- Give the app a clear name, and click Create App.
- Your new app appears at the top, marked Draft. To build it, click Edit in Studio.
- This is Studio, where you build your app. On the left are the blocks you can add. In the middle is your page. On the right, the Inspector shows the settings of whatever you select.
- Your app starts with one page, called Home. To add something, find it in the blocks. Type text in the search box, and click the Text block.
- The block appears on the page, and the Inspector shows its settings. Give it a name, and write its words. These are what your team will read.
- Click Save name for the name. The words save by themselves, and the page updates straight away.
- An app can have as many pages as you need. Open the Pages tab, type a name for the new page, and click Add page.
- The new page opens, ready to build. Let's add a table, to show a list of jobs. Open Blocks again, and click Table.
- A table shows the rows of a list, but this one isn't connected to any data yet. See, Data source says Not connected. In the next video, we'll create a list of jobs in Database Hub, and then connect it here.
