Creating lists and columns in Database Hub
Make a new list, add the columns you need, and choose the right type for each one.
What's in this video
- Every table, chart and form in OmniSchema shows data from a list. Lists live in Database Hub. To open it, click the database icon at the top.
- A database is a folder for your lists. You only need one to start. Type a name, add a description if you like, and click Create.
- Your database appears below. Click it to open it.
- Inside, there are three parts: the lists it holds, the apps that use it, and which roles can open it. A database's lists are made inside an app, so first, attach it to our app. Choose Property Jobs, and click Attach.
- Now you can make lists. Type a name for the list, and click New list. We'll make a list of jobs.
- Each list shows who can see its rows. More on that in a later video. Click the list to open it.
- This is where you manage a list. It has no columns yet. A column is one piece of information, like a title or a date. Type the column's name, choose its type, and click Add Column.
- Let's add a few more: the property, and a due date. For the due date, choose the Date type, so OmniSchema knows it's a date.
- One more: the cost. Choose Number, and tick Cost data. Cost columns are hidden from anyone whose role isn't allowed to see costs, everywhere the list is used.
- Now add a row. A row is one item in the list, here, one job. Click Add Row.
- Click a cell to fill it in, and press Enter to save it.
- That's your first job in the list. You can also bring rows in from a spreadsheet, on the Import tab. When you're done, close the window.
- Your database now holds a Jobs list, with its columns and a first row. In the next video, we'll connect it to the table on our app's page, and publish the app for the team.
