Connecting a list to your app, and publishing
Show your list in a table, publish the system, and choose which pages each role sees in the menu.
What's in this video
- In the last video, we made a Jobs list. Now let's show it in our system. On your dashboard, click Edit in Studio.
- Open the Pages tab, and choose the Jobs page we made earlier.
- Click the table to select it. Its settings appear in the Inspector on the right.
- Under Data source, choose the Jobs list. The table fills straight away with the list's columns and rows.
- Everything you change in Studio is a draft. Your team doesn't see it until you publish. When you're happy, click Publish.
- Here you can see what's going out. Add a short note about what changed, if you like, and click Publish.
- That's it: version one is live. Every time you publish, a new version is kept here, so you can always go back to an earlier one.
- Let's see what the team sees. Close this window, and go back to your dashboard. The system now says Live.
- Here's the system, as your team will see it. Right now, the menu on the left shows every page. As your system grows, you'll want to choose which pages each role sees. That's done in the Governance workspace.
- Click the workspace switch at the top. It changes to Governance. Click Company settings, then the Navigation tab.
- Under Sidebar for each role, choose All roles. Then a page you tick goes to every role at once. Tick Home and Jobs.
- The live preview on the right shows the menu. To give one role something different, choose just that role, and change its ticks.
- Click Publish, and the menus change for everyone.
- Switch back to the Operational workspace, and open the system. Click Jobs, and there's our list, live, for every role.
- That's the full journey: a list in Database Hub, a table on a page, published, and in the menu. Next, kits: whole lists and pages, ready made.
