People: Booking leave on your phone, and approving it
Book leave from a phone, see days left, report being off sick, and approve leave as a manager with cover checked for you.
What's in this video
- Staff book their leave from their phone. This is Priya, one of our electricians. In People, tap Leave at the bottom.
- The circle shows how many days of annual leave she has left this leave year. It's worked out from her working days, and the start date on her record. Tap Request leave.
- Kind of leave is Annual leave. Choose the first day and the last day. For a single morning or afternoon, tick Half a day instead.
- Weekends and bank holidays aren't taken off her allowance when she doesn't work them. Tap Send request.
- It says Sent for approval, and under My requests it's waiting for her manager. The days come off her allowance only when it's approved.
- If she wakes up ill, she taps I'm off sick instead. Her manager is told straight away, and the reason she gives is kept private.
- Now the manager. This is Marcus, on his phone. In People, he opens Leave and absence.
- Waiting for you lists the requests he needs to decide. Under each one, People checks the rest of the team: here, nobody else in Engineers is off that week, so the work is covered.
- He can add a note for Priya if he wants to. Tap Approve.
- It's approved. Approved leave also stops jobs and shifts being given to her on those days, so nobody books her for a job while she's away.
- Further down is who's off sick now. Bethany has been off since Friday. When she's back, her manager records her return on her record. People never works out sick pay amounts: your payroll does that.
- Below that is Who's off, a calendar of the next two weeks, and how much leave each person has left.
- Back on Priya's phone, her request now says Approved, and her days left have gone down by five.
- In the next video, we'll clock in from the phone, even with no signal, and approve timesheets.
