Blocks: Section, and settings every block has
Group blocks under a title, and learn the settings every block has: position, size, layer, screens, who can see it, and delete.
What's in this video
- A Section is a framed area with a title. Use it to group blocks that belong together, such as everything about this week. In the Blocks panel, search for Section and click it.
- It appears on the page, selected, and its settings open in the Inspector. First, give it a clear name. A section's name is its title.
- Every block has this tick box: Hide this block's name above its content. Tick it when the content already says what the block is about.
- Underneath are the settings every block has, so it's worth knowing them once. Position: the arrows move the block one step left, up, down or right. You can also drag a block around the page.
- Size: Narrower, Wider, Shorter and Taller. The page is twelve columns wide, so a block twelve columns wide fills the whole width. You can also drag a block's corner.
- Layer: when blocks overlap, Bring to front and Send to back decide which one is on top. A section usually goes to the back, so the blocks you place over it stay in front.
- Show on: Desktop, Tablet and Mobile. Untick one to hide the block on that size of screen. Make a copy for Mobile gives phones their own copy, which you can size and place differently.
- Visibility: tick one or more roles, and only people with those roles see the block. Leave them all unticked, and everyone sees it.
- And Delete block removes it. If you delete something by mistake, Undo at the top brings it back.
- These settings work the same on every block. So in the other block videos, we'll focus on what makes each block different.
