Setting up with your own data

Pick your type of business, install the recommended kits, and bring in your customer spreadsheet, so your app starts with your real data.

What's in this video

  1. After you sign up, OmniSchema asks a few quick questions, so it can set up the right pages for your business. Let's go through them with real data.
  2. First, pick what your business does. We're a heating and air conditioning company, so I'll choose Heating, Air Con and Refrigeration.
  3. Next, how many people are on your team, and what you use today. We're five people, and we use spreadsheets.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Give your app a name. This is what your team will see. You can rename it any time.
  6. Then click Create app.
  7. OmniSchema now recommends ready-made sets of pages, called kits, for your type of business. Each one has a tick box. Untick anything you don't need. You can add kits later.
  8. We'll keep them all, and click Install recommended kit. This takes a few seconds while your lists and pages are built.
  9. OmniSchema has linked your lists together, so a job knows its customer, its equipment, and who it's assigned to. There's nothing to do here, so click Continue.
  10. Now the useful part: bringing in your own spreadsheets. Each list your kits created is shown here. Let's import our customers. Click Import a spreadsheet, next to Customer Directory.
  11. Then click Import CSV or Excel, and choose your file. Here's our customer list, exported from a spreadsheet.
  12. OmniSchema reads the file and matches your column headings to its own. Here, all six columns matched. If one looks wrong, you can change it before importing.
  13. Click Import rows.
  14. All ten customers are in. You can import into any of the other lists the same way, now or later. When you're done, click Continue.
  15. And you're in your new app. This is the home page your team will see. On the left is the menu. Let's open Customer Directory.
  16. Here are the customers we just imported, ready to use. In the next video, we'll see what happens if you set up without any data of your own.
